East Islands of Claire by ArthurBlue East Islands of Claire by ArthurBlue
The title was inspired by the song by Planxty, "West Coast of Clare". The meaning of "claire" is bright or light and that was a perfect fit to my motivation for this image.

As usual, this was rendered in Vue. It's not a photo-montage of any sorts.

EDIT: this image has a companion:

I had to look at the PSD file to check because it was a long time ago but no, I didn't. The only post work in this image is some de-saturation and a very subtle glow in some of the highlights. If I'd show you the raw render you'd have trouble telling the two pictures apart as they're nearly identical.

The cloud formation is pure Vue as well. It was made with a mix of two techniques: "limit cloud to zone" (to have clouds only on that central area) and "dissolve near objects" (to make the hole in the middle).

what are those plants you used? and the material for the ground cover?

:iconarthurblue:

The ground cover is a combination of 6 independent ecosystems, each one with its own settings and objects, on top of a base material which is a combination of 3 different materials (one for above water, two for below). In total, on all ecosystems, there are 24 different types of objects on that ground so I have no idea which ones you are talking about. The base material was made by me, starting with some basic Vue stock materials and adjusting them to my needs.

ahh okay dang.

The thing i was wondering about was mainly the rocks on the ground cover. the small stones. is that actual stone objects or is it just part of a material?

That's also a mix. Here's a close-up of a section: dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/43…
For example, the parts I circled in red are part of the material, not actual stones. But most of what you see are stone objects (actually, 3 different stone types). It's a painted ecosystem (the random distribution of Vue is too random for this kind of situation, in reality stones tend to form small groups and that's what I tried to imitate).

Wow! really wonderful work.
Minor suggestion: for the atmosphere in this work, the clouds might have been a little less dense, and therefore lighter, perhaps?

Yes, now that you mention it, I think you're right. A lighter tone would probably resonate better with the concept. Thanks for the hint!

You're very welcome. I think that's the point of reacting to a nice work: helping each other improve even more. Huggle!
